6th online open house event “Inclusive impact assessment”

The sixth Open House under the DivAirCity Twinning Programme, held on the 5th of May 2025, focused on “inclusive impact assessment”. Hosted by CNR, the session offered the opportunity for Twin Cities to find out more about the DivAirCity data work and impact assessment framework, and provided some guidance to other cities in implementing evaluations.

MAIN POINTS OF DISCUSSION:

  • Impact assessment is something interesting for cities but rather complicated, due to lack of expertise, time, and budget. For this reason, adequate planning is crucial, allowing if possible, at least a period of 24 months for the evaluation.
  • More effective and efficient impact assessments can be carried out by using a variety of sources: data collected by and from citizens, remote sensing data, data from environmental monitoring stations, etc. It is thus essential to measure the baselines in time and to engage citizens from the very beginning of the process.

MAIN LESSONS LEARNT

  • Data and impact assessments can be complicated topics to discuss with non-technical staff. For this reason, it is important to provide guiding questions and reading materials in advance.
