Project-to-Project event on data

The second event of the Project-to-Project Twinning Programme focused on data and it was held by EcoWise. The session was divided into three parts: first, data in the context of DivAirCity were introduced. Second, a roundtable discussion on inclusive data collection was held. Finally, projects had the chance to showcase their approach to data management, with several of them taking the stage to present their work.

MAIN POINTS OF DISCUSSION:

  • Data management in NBS projects needs to have a holistic approach, focusing on environmental aspects, but also social and economic considerations
  • It is crucial to address data biases, to collect missing data through community engagement, and to use data ontology to connect disparate indicators
  • Citizens-collected data can pose privacy challenges (for example, in the case of wearable devices)

MAIN LESSONS LEARNT

  • Among research and innovation projects, data is a central aspect with several challenges and lessons learned to share.
  • Discussions around data management need to be shaped around the main project topics (in this case, NBS, citizens engagement, air quality, etc.) as data issues can be rather diverse.
